Recital is fast approaching and we’re very excited! Our theme is “Seasons 08″. All of inMotion’s students have been working dilligently to get ready for what is defenitely a labor of love. We hope everyone enjoys watching the show as much as we will performing for them!

This section of our website has been created to answer questions you might have, help you with information you will need to be prepared  and keep you informed for the 2008 Recital.

The BIG packet of information - Also known as the “Recital Packet” consists of the picture shedules, the dress rehearsal times & dates, Mom & Daughter practice dates, Daddy Dance Practice dates, Finale Rehearsal dates, and finally performance dates & times. We began sending this packet out last month with students. If you don’t have one, are missing or have misplaced it please look to the right hand side of this page for the download box. (A black shaded box) Click on the document titled “08RecitalPacket” and download this to your computer to be printed off. You may also pick up another copy in our office during regular studio hours.  Once you’ve got this be sure to mark dates and times that coordinate for your child on your calendar now! We’re getting pretty close now so don’t delay. At this point if you plan on inviting family members to watch your child perform you may want to let them know as well.

Check Your Costumes – After pictures are done be sure your child’s costume gets put away with all the pieces intact. If pieces are lost at this point there may not be time to re-order replacements as many of the costume companies take 4-6 weeks to ship something. If an item is re-ordered or replaced due to loss you will be required to pay for the replacement and shipping. We suggest placing all your child’s costume in a bag or on a hanger and use a small ziploc bag to put in any accessories. Then you can poke a hole in the top of the bag to place it on the hanger with the costume. If your child has more than one costume this method works really well and keeps it all neat and tidy and most importantly all together. Another method, if your child is in several dances is the laundry basket or storage bin. Each costume, it’s accesories etc. is placed in a bag then the several bags into the bin or container. Toss in a make up bag and hair products and it can make for a simple way to get it all to the theatre and keep it all together. Make sure all tights are with costumes the require them and they don’t have runs or holes. If so replace them now as opposed to the last minute!

Parent Helpers Needed – Many of the younger classes need to have a parent helper with them before and after they perform in the waiting area. Many classes still are without a helper. Parent helpers help keep the chaos of the waiting room to a dull roar by entertaining the dancers with coloring books, games, etc and will walk their group of dancers to and from the stage before and after their performance. This does not mean you have to miss out on your child’s performance. We set aside a place for the parents who help to sit while their child dances and then can easily exit to meet the class they are helping with and take them back to the waiting area until picked up by their parents. Please visit the front desk to sign up to help. THANK YOU!

Mommies & Daddies Dance TOO! This year we are doing two special things to involve family members. There will be a Mommy/Child dance to the song “Aint No Mountain High Enough” and this year we are asking the Dad’s to help us with our “Thriller” finale. The Dads will be our dancing monsters so NO DANCE SKILLS REQUIRED! Sign up in the office, practices are in April & May, please attend as many practices as possible!

Dress Rehearsal – This is our opportunity to familiarize the dancers with the stage and performance area. For many students this is completely new so it’s important for them to see and dance on the stage before performing. Dress Rehearsal is REQUIRED of all dancers and should not be skipped! Dancers should arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled rehearsal time.

As we did last year, we are running the dance numbers back to back without stopping the music. Each group will dance on and off the stage in the order they perform at recital. We will run through each section completely two times. This helps the students familiarize themselves with how the show should run and what to expect and by not stopping the music it significantly shortens the length of our show. This also gives the students a chance to watch each other, as during the show they are not allowed in the audience due to the limited seating capacity.

Dancers should wear their costumes and dance shoes for dress rehearsal, make up is not necessary at this time. Remember food is NOT allowed in the auditorium but can be eaten in the cafeteria area. We will agian have snacks and food items for sale during dress rehearsal. Video cameras and pictures are allowed during dress rehearsal, it provides a great opportunity for parents to get up close shots.

Recital Performances - All dancers should try to arrive 20-30 minutes before the show begins and come dressed in their costumes with hair & make up done as they desire or as directed by their teacher.

Teen classes typically meet in the “dungeon” or lower level performance room. Youth & Pre classes report to the multi purpose room where you will drop off your child with the parent helper for their class. Remember the parent helpers are not there to dress your child or get them ready, you are responsible for bringing them to the performance dressed and ready. You may want to pack an simple snack or drink, one that won’t make a mess or stain preferably, as well as a book or crayons etc. to help them pass the time before they perform. After your dancer is finished we encourage them to stay through the finale where everyone will dance but if you and your dancer must leave early then please meet them back at the multi purpose room after they perform. Do NOT take them from the group after they exit the stage or meet them in the cafeteria area.

After the show ends pre & youth dancers will be returned to the multi purpose room. Please pick your student up there and DO NOT take them from the stage area or cafeteria. We need to ensure that students leave with the correct parent or adult and cannot do so if children are being “swooped up” randomly. This is for every child’s safety and we appreciate your cooperation.

Shout It Out & Special Ads - We are once again offering special “Shout Outs” that will be printed in our souvenir programs. Shout Outs are $2.00. Stop at the desk to pay & fill out your shout form. Special Ads are for sale this year as well. Four sizes are being offered with prices varying from $5 to $15. Ads can be commercial or personal in nature and include photographs if desired. Please contact the office for further information. All ads and shout outs must be received by May 1.
